- Eddie Johnson got his third consecutive start and first win in an appearance, a 1-0 victory last Sunday over Everton courtesy of fellow American striker Brian McBride’s second-half goal. Johnson’s full 90 performance, rated a 6 by Sky Sports as “spirited but erratic,” ended with multiple chances but no shots on goal. The Cottagers travel to St. James’ Park on Saturday sitting two points back of Bolton and looking for their first road win in 18 months.
- Josh Wolff also played the full 90 in 1860 Munich’s 1-1 tie against Mainz on Sunday, the Lions lone goal coming from fellow American Gregg Berhalter on a second half penalty kick. Kicker rated his outing a poor one, giving it a 5 — below his team-low 4.03 season average. 1860 sits in 8th place in the Bundesliga 2 ahead of their match versus Koblenz on Sunday. Josh is expected to start, according to Yanks Abroad.
- Chris Konopka did not play in Bohemian FC’s 2-1 win over Sligo Rovers today. Three games into their season, they sit tied for fourth and face Finn Harps next Friday.
- Finally, Will John did not play in Randers’ 0-0 tie against AGF yesterday, and was not on the bench in their 3-1 loss to Brondby last Sunday due to an illness. His Danish squad next plays Esbjerg and American goalkeeper Tally Hall on Sunday. In other news, here’s a pic of his “Danish pad” (click to enlarge).
