Today, the late Lamar Hunt was inducted in the Hall of Famous Missourians in Jefferson City. The Wizards original owner and namesake of the US Open Cup died on December 13, 2006 after fighting prostate cancer for a decade. He was 74.
The Wizards honored Hunt last season by wearing commemorative jerseys against FC Dallas, whom he also owned. Hunt sold the Wizards to OnGoal on August 31, 2006. The Hunt family continued to own Dallas, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Columbus Crew upon his passing.
