The Kansas City Wizards announced this morning, via this press release, that they have partnered with FieldTurf, Tarkett and Fields, Inc. to install the synethetic surface on Field 3 at their Swope Park Training Center. Construction began Jan. 2nd on that field and it is expected to be completed next month.

We are excited to kick-off our partnership with FieldTurf Tarkett and FIELDS by rebuilding Field 3 at our Swope Park Training Center,” Ficklin said. “The Wizards will now be able to train on the same surface they will see in any MLS match, whether it is Bermuda, Bluegrass or FieldTurf. Also, KC area youth soccer, our community outreach initiatives and KCW Juniors programs will see dramatic improvements by having an all-weather lighted professional field at their disposal.”

FieldTurf surfaces are currently used for home matches by Salt Lake, New England, New York, and Toronto, and the company has a who’s who list of European clubs for clients (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Glasgow Rangers, Werder Bremen, etc.). Listed below are local FieldTurf facilities you may be familiar with and their dates of completion, most notably the Sports Lodge Fields where the Wizards have held the indoor portion of preseason.

  1. […] Also, KC announced a long-term field-building agreement with FieldTurf Tarkett, Fields Inc.  Oz City did a nice write up on it here. […]

  2. Should we be worried that our stadium is going to have that crap?

  3. Ah…I think I see where the transfer money is going…

  4. Bobby…no need to worry. OnGoal knows we need to play on grass. Look what they have done at CAB regarding the grass there and what they plan to do once the T-Bones start playing. We may even get a HEATED field at Hillcrest Road!

  5. What about the sand turf at the HDC. How do we mimic that?
