Kante on Trial with Wizards

As reported by Steven Goff, defender/forward Ibrahim Kante of the USL 2-side Crystal Palace USA has been invited to Wizards preseason and has been training with the team since Monday. Here is an article from the team’s website with more information on the Mali native.

Kante is not new to Kansas City. The Kansas City Comets of the MISL traded for Kante from the St. Louis Steamers in 2004-2005. He is 26 years old, 6’3″ and 215 pounds. He was a Junior College first team All-American at the Essex Community College in 2002, and was waived by New England in November 2003.

Somewhat related, Bob Rusert has a story up on the offseason changes and Onalfo’s outlook on the 2008 season.

  2. so…we’d be using Kante up top?

  3. i watched him play as a comet, and while he is imposing due to his size and strength, i’m not convinced those attributes would translate well into the mls. he’s slow, for one, and i suppose he could succeed as a target forward but that’s more scott sealy’s style.

for a size comparison, he’s the same height as onandi lowe and with an extra 10 pounds.
