ESPN’s SportsCenter did a special feature last night on the late Private First Class Nick Madaras (1986-2006). In the big picture, the story speaks to the way in which soccer can transcend war. On a smaller scheme, it honors a human being who happened to be a passionate soccer player, referee, and coach. And who — like all of our armed forces — set all that aside to serve his country.
